    Are Your Car Keys Safe?

Many homes are burgled purely to steal car keys. Security on many vehicles has improved so the only way to steal them is to have the key.

The majority of cars are taken over night- often when the owner is asleep in bed. Around half of the keys stolen have been left in places where they are visible from outside. Some have been ‘fished’ out through the letterbox with a hook on a stick.

• Always park your car in your garage if you have one
• Fit substantial gates or bollards if you leave your car on your drive
• Consider installing a tracker device, an alarm and an immobiliser if you value your car
• Make sure your doors and windows are locked- even when you are at home- they’re not called locks for nothing!
• Always keep your keys safe, away from doors and windows where thieves could spot or reach them.
